Although the County House of Correction was listed separately in the 1818 Return, the two institutions (Gaol and House of Correction), located on the same site and sharing the same management, were described as one in other sources from the turn of the century. The statistics given for the two institutions in 1818 have been combined here. When the County Gaol and House of Correction moved to Vernon Street in 1828, the Borough Gaol and House of Correction (ID 680) was relocated to the old premises in Nun's Green, Friargate.
