Although the County Directories claim that the new House of Correction on the site of the County Gaol (ID 82) was completed by c1814, the 1818 Return referred to the previous House of Correction, explaining that the new House of Correction was still under construction. It had been finished by the time the county began to submit reports under the 1823 Gaol Act (ie. 1824).
