Critical Remarks

Sources suggest that the old borough gaol in Penzance was located in the corn market. However, in 1812 Neild suggests that this prison had been replaced by a new gaol located in Oat Market House, formerly the old school, in about 1805. It is possible that Neild is mistaken, and that corn market and Oat Market House are the same gaol.
