Critical Remarks

Became the ‘Manor Office’ (i.e. town hall?) around 1820. In 1827, Parson and White refer to the old gaol in the town hall on the east side of the market, but in use for debtors only. The 1840 Return included the town gaol but stated there had not been any prisoners for several years.
