Description

  • 'This is a small detached building a little way from the road, about the centre of the town. It belongs to the township, but has lately been given into the charge of the county police. There is but one cell. It is 7 feet square, and 8 feet high, the ceiling being arched ... The floor is on a level with the ground outside, and is damp. The cell is nearly dark, the only provision for light and ventilation being a amsll hole in the door. There is no provision for warming ... There is a narrow wooden bench, but neither bed nor bedding.'
