Building Type Lock Up, Dwelling House
'This lock-up house is merely a cellar in the keepers house, and is unfit for use; a new lock-up house, however, with court-house attached, is now in the course of erection. The keeper said that there was not so much crime in the neighbourhood as formerly, and that the offences for which persons were confined in the lock-up house were principally drunkenness and vagrancy.'
Inspectors of Prisons of Great Britain IV. Northern District, Thirteenth Report (Parl. Papers, 1847-8, XXXVI.361), p.66
