Remarks Leslie Brooke, in his book on West Country lock-ups, explains that this lock-up was built beside the churchyard wall in 1785, but in 1835 was taken down and rebuilt opposite the Joliffe Arms (see: https://www.prisonhistory.org/lockup/kilmersdon-blindhouse/). Brooke cites entries from the Churchwarden's Accounts which refer to the original building.
