Description

  • '[From] 1484 or 1494 the Corporation rented the Tower for use as a prison...[circa 1799] the Tower was by now in a bad state of repair; the Corporation even considered demolishing it. Instead, a red brick exercise yard was built on the north side and, it is thought, the stocks and whipping post removed.'
