Descriptions

  • 'Town Hall and house. 1790 enlarged 1887. Slate ground floor, roughcast 1st floor and hipped slate roofs. 2 storeys, 7 bays, the 1st 2 bays recessed and lower, the last 2 bays break back. Ground floor has elliptical-headed arches with impost bands, originally open, flat band over. Arches now infilled, with small-paned glazing, Y-tracery window to 1st bay, entrance to 3rd bay. 1st floor has sashed windows with glazing bars, those to 2nd to 7th bays are round-headed in round-headed recesses. 2 datestones recording building and extension. Left return has 2 round-headed windows and entrance; 1st floor Venetian window, sashed with glazing bars, most lights blocked. Right return has lean-to extension and small porch. 2 ventilators to roof ridge. Rear is set into hill. Central 3 bays form original building. 1st 2 bays form house.'
