Description

  • 'These places for the temporary confinement of prisoners consist of two dark and ill ventilated cells, of the following limited dimensions: Cell for males - 11 feet 3 inches long, 6 feet 8 inches wide, 9 feet 1 inch high; Cell for females - 10 feet 8 inches long, 5 feet 6 inches wide, 9 feet high. From the accompanying return it appears that as many as 15 persons on one occasion, 14 on two others, have been kept in this lock-up from the Saturday until the usual house of the magistrates sitting on the Monday.'
