Description
'The present lock up house is a single cell, very unfit for use, and is about to be abandoned ... The cell at present in use was dry at the time of my visit, but is damp, I was told, in the winter. It has an unglazed window, has no provision for warming, and is insecure. There is, moreover, no resident keeper ... [The old cell forms] part of a building in the middle of the village, a portion of which is to beused for the County Court.'
